The rate card, in public

Monthly design retainer pricing, with nothing behind a call

Most retainer pricing pages end with "book a call to get a quote." Ours is just the numbers: $150/hr, every service, with a 50-hour monthly minimum, so about $7,500 a month at entry. Month-to-month, 30-day cancellation, unused hours roll over.

One deliberate absence from that table: tiers with different rates. Plenty of vendors price design hours differently from development hours; we think that's how clients end up rationing the wrong discipline mid-project. Hours are hours. Spend them on whatever the month needs.

Rollover, worked through with actual arithmetic

"Hours roll over" appears on a lot of pricing pages and means a different thing on each one, so here is precisely what ours means, using the published rule: unused hours carry forward, capped at 100% of that month's retained hours.

Say you're on Level 1 at 50 hours. In March the team bills 38; the leftover 12 carry into April, where you now have 62 available. April turns busy and uses 60. May starts with 52. The cap only appears if quiet months stack: carry-over can never exceed one full month's retained hours, so at 50 retained you'll never sit on more than 50 banked. You cannot bank a year of hours, and we'd rather say so in the open than in month eleven.

Why it matters is the money. A "use it or lose it" retainer quietly raises your real hourly rate every quiet month; pay $7,500 and use 38 hours with no rollover and those hours cost you $197 each. With rollover, they stay $150, just delayed. Marketing workloads are lumpy. Pricing should absorb that instead of profiting from it.

Retainer or project rate: the actual decision

The $150 retained rate against the $200 ad-hoc rate is a 25% discount for committed volume, worth $2,500 a month at 50 hours. So the decision is really about your demand curve, and we'll argue against ourselves where that's the honest read.

  • Steady, varied demand (the landing-page-deck-and-site-update stream of a working B2B SaaS marketing team): take the retainer. This is the profile behind our published client savings of $291K–$498K a year versus in-house teams, and behind retainers like Saviynt's 4+ years and 10,000+ hours.
  • One defined project, then quiet: take $200/hr ad-hoc or a fixed package. The Scale-Ready Website Design at $20K exists so a single build doesn't need a monthly commitment wrapped around it.
  • Small, occasional needs: the Brand Hero Refresh from $2.5K is the honest entry, and a freelancer may be honest competition for it.

For scale on the first option: the in-house department a retainer replaces runs $300–800K a year at 50–60% productive utilization. The calculator compares your numbers in about a minute. One process note since pricing pages usually hide it: the work itself comes from a senior bench (creative director; developer and PM at 15+ years; designer at 12) working in your own Slack, Asana, Trello, or Notion, with AI on production and the named seniors on judgment, which is how one rate covers four disciplines.

HOW IT WORKS

Fast, flexible,
full-service teams.

STEP 1

Choose how many hours you need

Plans of all sizes: part-time, full-time, startup, enterprise and in between. Retainers start at 50 hours a month — about $7,500 at our flat $150/hr — and scale up through Level 2, Level 3 and Enterprise as the workload grows.
Not sure? Happy to help. Tell us what is on this quarter's list and we will size it with you.
STEP 2

Use those hours for any of our services

Branding, design, development, video or copywriting — one team, one rate. Landing pages, logo and branding, brand guides, web design, Webflow, WordPress and HubSpot builds, slide decks, social media, ebooks, event collateral and infographics.
Big projects, quick fixes, team meetings — we're onboard and ready. Shift the mix month to month as priorities change, with no change orders and no rescoping.
STEP 3

Get brilliant work, quickly and easily

Work directly with senior talent, in real time, wherever you like to work — Slack, Asana, Trello or Notion. No account managers, no ticket queues, and unlimited meetings. Your bench includes a creative director, a senior developer and a senior PM with 15+ years each, plus a senior designer with 12 years behind her.
STEP 4

Easily adjust as your needs change

Adjust your hours month to month, and roll over unused hours, so no hour is wasted. Rollover is capped at one month's retained hours, and you can move between levels whenever the workload changes.
No long-term commitments or gotcha fees — just honest hourly retainers, billed monthly, with 30 days' notice to stop.

Now put your own in-house costs next to those plans

Every plan above is billed at $150 an hour, and every one of those hours is productive time. The calculator works the other side of the comparison: pick the roles you would otherwise hire, set their salaries, your team size and your overhead, and it totals what that team actually costs you — then sets the number against each tier on this page.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

How much does a monthly design retainer cost?

Ours is $150/hr with a 50-hour monthly minimum, so about $7,500 a month at entry (Level 1). Levels 2, 3, and Enterprise sit above that at the same hourly rate. Billing is monthly, terms are month-to-month, and cancellation takes 30 days' notice.

What is included at $150/hr?

Every service, one rate: design, web development in Webflow, WordPress, and HubSpot, video, and copywriting, from a senior team you work with directly in Slack, Asana, Trello, or Notion. There are no per-service surcharges and no hidden fees.

Do unused retainer hours roll over?

Yes, capped at 100% of that month's retained hours. Retain 50 and use 38, and the leftover 12 join next month's 50 for 62 available. The most you can carry into any month is one full month's worth.

Is there a contract or minimum term?

No long-term commitment. The retainer is month-to-month, hours adjust monthly, and cancellation takes 30 days' notice. Our longest client relationships (Saviynt at 4+ years, NAVIS at 3+) ran on exactly these terms the whole time.

What if I need less than 50 hours a month?

Skip the retainer. Project work is $200/hr ad-hoc, and fixed-price packages run from $2.5K (Brand Hero Refresh) to $20K (Scale-Ready Website Design). The retainer's $150 rate is the reward for committed volume, and it only makes sense at real volume.

How does retainer pricing compare to a project rate?

$150/hr retained versus $200/hr ad-hoc: a 25% discount for the monthly commitment. At 50 hours that difference is worth $2,500 a month, so steady work pays for the commitment quickly.
